I was browsing Poshmark the other day – because, duh, where else would I be? – and saw a bunch of listings. “BVLGARI Scarves & Wraps at up to 70% off!” it screamed. And you kinda wanna click, right? But then you think, hmmm, 70% off… is this *really* Bulgari? And that’s when the whole “luxury lookalike” thing starts swirling around in your brain.
Lyst.com also has them, apparently. “24 items on sale from $200.” Okay, see, $200 is *slightly* more palatable. But STILL. I’m thinking, maybe I just want the *look* of Bulgari, without, y’know, selling a kidney.
This whole thing reminds me of that time I tried to bake macarons. Total Pinterest fail. Looked nothing like the picture. Tasted… questionable. Maybe buying a “dupe” scarf is the same kinda thing? You *think* you’re getting the real deal, but are you just setting yourself up for disappointment?
And then there’s the whole “vintage” aspect. I saw some listings for “Vintage Bulgari Scarves.” I’m all for vintage, but how do you even *know* it’s legit vintage and not just… old and… not Bulgari? I mean, people get really creative with scams these days, right? It’s kinda scary.
Honestly, I kinda want one. I saw a listing on Poshmark, “Scarf. Sold by memefab1. Fast delivery, full service customer support.” ‘Memefab1’? That’s almost too good to be true. And the description is just “Scarf.” Super helpful. *eye roll*
Maybe it’s just the allure of the name. “Bulgari.” It just sounds fancy. Like, I could be wearing a burlap sack, but if I tied a Bulgari-esque scarf around my neck, suddenly I’m, like, a *vision*.
I suppose you could, you know, actually buy a genuine Bulgari piece. Like, a *ring* from the “High Quality Italian Jewelry | Bvlgari Official Store” that the ad keeps trying to sell me. But, again, the price… yikes. Maybe I should just stick to my Target scarf and dream. Although, I did see a really pretty silk scarf at a thrift store the other day… Hmm… maybe I can just pretend it’s Bulgari. Nobody has to know, right?
