I mean, look, Gucci’s been around forever, right? So there’s a ton of stuff out there. You got the real deal, you got the… let’s just say “inspired by” pieces, and then you got straight-up fakes. It’s a minefield! And even the “real deal” vintage stuff can be… well, let’s just say trends change, ya know? That bucket hat your grandpa rocked in the 70s? Might not exactly be turning heads on the street today, unless you’re going for *that* look. Which, hey, more power to ya!
I’ve been digging around online (and sometimes in actual, dusty vintage stores – the horror!) and you see everything. From pristine, practically-never-worn GG monogram caps that probably cost more than my rent, to slightly-smelly, definitely-seen-better-days beanies that scream “college student in the 90s.” And honestly? I kinda dig the latter. There’s something about a piece with a story, you know? Like, imagine all the adventures that hat has been on!
Ebay, 1stDibs, Depop… they’re all treasure troves. But you gotta be careful! Do your research! Learn the telltale signs of a fake. And for the love of all that is holy, *read the descriptions carefully*. Seriously, nothing’s worse than thinking you’re snagging a steal only to realize it’s sized for a toddler’s head. (Been there, done that. Don’t ask.)
And Farfetch? Yeah, they have some legit stuff, but it’s usually the newer, more “vintage-inspired” kinda thing. Less actual vintage, more… “vintage cosplay,” maybe? Still cool, but not quite the same.
